APA Formatting: Video and PowerPoint examples

Many of you are familiar with using APA formatting in our School of Business classes. Most of the time we cite journal articles or books, which are pretty standard as far as formatting goes. However, in our course we have several atypical sources that you may use in your posts and papers. These sources include embedded videos, the PowerPoint slides, and you might even cite a group mateís comments from one of our discussion board posts. Since these are not clearly defined in some of the APA formatting sources you use, I thought Iíd suggest the following sample references and citations. You can then cite/reference in this manner anytime you use one of these sources.

For the videos:

To cite in text: (Johnson, 2010)

To include in the Reference list:

Johnson, K. (Creator). ABC University (Poster). (2010). Presentation: Personal application [Video]. Retrieved from http://cut & paste the complete url

For the PowerPoint slide shows:

To cite in text: (Cruz, 2010)

To quote in text: (Cruz, 2010, slide 24)

To include in the Reference list:

Cruz, D. L. (2010). Presentation: Part one [PowerPoint slides]. Retrieved from http://cut & paste the complete url

For a fellow studentís discussion board post comment:

To cite in text: (Smith, 2011)

To quote in text: (Smith, 2011, para. 1)

To include in the Reference list:

Smith, B. D. (2011, February 4). Servant leadership and the modern leader [Msg 4]. Message posted to http://cut & paste the complete url
